Jeremy S. Friedberg was inducted as a fellow of the
American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers (ACCFL).
Membership in the ACCFL is limited to commercial finance
lawyers, jurists and academics who have not only achieved
preeminence in the field of commercial finance law, but who
also have contributed significantly to the education of
others in commercial finance law through teaching, lecturing
or published writings.
August 2007 - Jeremy S. Friedberg moderated a panel for the Loan Documentation Subcommittee of the Commercial Financial Services Committee of the Business Law Section of the ABA: "'Applicable Other Law' ERISA, Sarbanes-Oxley and the Patriot Act in Loan Documentation." This timely program explored the impact of other laws (ERISA, Sarbanes-Oxley and the Patriot Act) on commercial loan documentation and the basic issues about which loan documentation counsel needs to be aware.
March 2007 - Jeremy S. Friedberg moderated a panel for the Association of Commercial Finance Attorneys, "Ethical Issues in Negotiating and Drafting Opinion Letters", considering ethical and professional issues in the negotiation and drafting of legal opinions in common commercial finance transactions.
September 2006 - Jeremy S. Friedberg appeared on an ABA Section of Litigation teleconference entitled "After the Default: Litigation Under UCC Article 9".
April 2006 - Jeremy S. Friedberg moderated a panel exploring Third-party Agreements for the Loan Documentation Subcommittee of the Commercial Financial Services Committee at the American Bar Association Business Law Section spring meeting on April 7, 2006.
April 2006 - Steven Leitess elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers.

The American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers is devoted to the advancement of commercial finance law and the recognition of attorneys who have made substantial contributions to the development of that body of law. The College's members include the most accomplished attorneys practicing in the field of commercial finance today.
October 2005 - Steve Leitess appeared as a guest speaker at the Lending Trends seminar sponsored by Marden Harrison & Kreuter, CPAs, on Thursday, October 6, 2005.
September 2005 - Jeremy S. Friedberg was appointed chair of the Uniform Commercial Code Committee of the Maryland State Bar Association's Business Law Section.
September 2005 - Steve Leitess' article, "Two Key Changes in the Bankruptcy Code You Should Know," appears in the September, 2005 issue of Equipment Leasing Today. The article discusses how leasing will benefit from the new code. The first change requires Debtors to cure nonmonetary as well as monetary defaults prior to assuming leases in bankruptcy. The second change will make it easier for lessors to assert the ordinary course of business defense in preference avoidance actions.
August 2005 - Jeremy S. Friedberg became chair of the Commercial Loan Documentation Subcommittee of A.B.A. Business Law Section, Commercial Financial Services Committee.
April 2005 - Jeremy S. Friedberg moderated a panel entitled "UCC: Avoiding Common Pitfalls and Keeping Your Priorities Straight" at the American Bar Association Business Law Section spring meeting. In additional to putting the program together, Jeremy explored default and enforcement issues under UCC Article 9.
Steven Leitess and Jeremy Friedberg Appointed to Chair Bar Task Force - Steven N. Leitess and Jeremy S. Friedberg were appointed by the Maryland State Bar Association's (MSBA) Business Law Section Council chair Marshall Paul to co-chair a Task Force to study a bill that will be filed in the 2004 session of the Maryland General Assembly. The bill will undertake substantial modernization of the Uniform Commercial Code.
The Maryland Uniform Laws Commission informed the MSBA Business Law Section that legislators in both houses recently committed to sponsor the bill. The bill proposes complete revision of Commercial Law Article Title 1 (general provisions), amendment to Title 3 (negotiable instruments) and Title 4 (bank deposits and collections), repeal of Title 6 (bulk transfers) and complete revision of Title 7 (warehouse receipts, bills of lading and other documents of title).
The bill represents the ongoing commitment of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws to maintain the Uniform Commercial Code as an evolving body of law that reflects developing jurisprudence and public policy and conforms the UCC to current business practices such as increasing reliance on new technology.

Jeremy S. Friedberg Appears on American Bar Association Televised Satellite Seminar - Jeremy Friedberg served as a faculty member for the 90-minute American Bar Association program entitled Revised Article 9: Questions from the Perplexed: Common Drafting Issues. This televised seminar considered certain recurring and perplexing problems that confront transactional lawyers. Professor Jonathan Lipson of the University of Baltimore School of Law moderated the panel. Jeremy currently serves as vice-chair of the Loan Documentation Subcommittee of the Business Law Section's Commercial Financial Services Committee.
Earl Leitess Appointed by Governor - Governor Ehrlich appointed Earl F. Leitess to the Maryland Uniform Laws Commission. It is the task of the Commission to report uniform laws to the Maryland General Assembly for enactment when those laws appear to be in the best interests of the State.
Commissioners are also expected to be available for assignment to drafting committees of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL), the umbrella organization of the States' efforts to make their laws uniform. NCCUSL has been in existence for over a century and is responsible for virtually all uniform and model laws in effect in America today. Perhaps the most significant accomplishment of NCCUSL is in the creation and maintenance with the American Law Institute of the Uniform Commercial Code.
Steve Leitess Appointed to ELA Legal Committee - The Equipment Leasing Association ("ELA"), the leading organization for lessors and financiers of business equipment has named Steven N. Leitess as a member of ELA's Legal Committee.
Steve has been a frequent lecturer and contributor to ELA and its journal, Equipment Leasing Today, most recently co-authoring an article on the Uniform Certificate of Title Act now being drafted by a committee of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. Steve is the American Bar Association advisor to the drafting committee.
